Meet Tim Schilling

How long have you been associated with Wings and what is your history here?

I signed up for this journey in January of 2017 so I am relatively new to Wings Support & Recovery. I have been in Marysville since 1989 and while I’m not a “native”, I have been here a long time and am invested in this community. Like many in the community, I was aware of the Wings name long before I knew anything about the Wings mission or its place in the community. In 2012 as a member of the Union County Mental Health and Recovery Board, I began to get much more aware of the critical services that Wings was providing to the community. It was then my passion for the Wings mission began to grow and ultimately led me to become Wings Support and Recovery Director. Though my journey here was unplanned and unexpected, it seems to be exactly where I need to be.

A favorite Wings memory:

I will always remember a gentleman that pulled me aside one day and said, “I have looked for help for a long time and never got it. Ever since I have come here, all I get is help. Thank you!”

Things you like best about being here:

I spent a couple of decades in the business world trying to find career fulfillment to no avail. After a life changing moment, I made some changes. I went back to college completing my MSW, gained some licensure credentials and redirected my career and fulfillment found me! Here, I get to serve and lead an incredible staff and serve a population of people that touch my heart on a daily basis.

Things you like best about Wings:

It is a safe place where people can come and establish connection. We work to help people reconnect or possibly connect for the first time with family, friends, and the community. We work with people to build skills, develop resources, heal relationships, and learn self-advocacy. Our successes are reflected not only in a measureable increase in the individual’s satisfaction with their lives, but in the changes we hear in their voices and see in their eyes.

What excites you about the future of Wings?

Wow! The future of Wings Support & Recovery is so bright. We are looking at so many exciting opportunities to expand our service in the community. We are an agency that needs to be serving the entire county. I see us expanding operations into all parts of the county in the near future. I am looking forward to exploring new services that might provide more in the way of job training in a real work setting. Our newly renovated facility will soon become a place where our community can gather for meetings and workshops and through these interactions get familiar with the work we do here. If you haven’t’ been to the facility, stop by! It’s a place you’ll be proud to say is in your community.
